A couple of very good spyware / adware detection and removal utilities are Spybot and AdAware.

Spybot: http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10401314.html?tag=lst-0-1

AdAware: http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10399602.html?tag=lst-0-1

Also, when reviewing your computer for spyware, adware, and viruses, you should occassionally check that your "Hosts" file has not been corrupted. It can be found at either \\Winnt\System32\drivers\etc or \\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

You should most likely have nothing in the Host file below the "127.0.0.1 localhost" line. If there is a bunch of stuff in there, try to find another, uneditted version over or remove everything below the "127.0.0.1" line.

I am disabled on fixed income with a donated computer and I have found a combination of free products that are essential and work very well together, as for anti-virus Avast or AVG are good installations that can be enhanced by running regular checks with trend housecalls.

Install the yahoo toolbar with spyware protection and download all of these Spywareblaster, Spybot S&D and Adaware are a must have trio in combination with Winpatrol and Snoopfree also you should search for the coolweb shredder and run these everyday

Spybot is a good free one. Just put that in Yahoo Search and you will find the site. It picks up some things that my pay one does not see......

Nortons is good, but with an Apple computer you don't have to worry about virses or anything intruding on your privacy. Good Luck!
