work that he did with the conservation of animals? Has this made you think about how life can be taken from you...in the most bizzare and unlucky circumstances?
Additional Details

it was unlucky...cause three inches to the right or left and he would have been saved. also, bullray are not agressive, the ray was threated by Steve and a camera man on the other side...the ray turned around and put its tail in the air (something like a whip with a bayonet at the end) and Steve was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I met Steve, family friends share a property boarder with Australia Zoo, I live in Cairns, Far North Queensland, this happened on Batt Reef, a reef that I have dived myself three times! I will continue to explore the Great Barrier Reef (or what is left of it) and will always be conscience of my surroundings...

Steve's death must have been hard for you. Man is mortal, that fact hasn't changed, even invincible Steve.
His work will continue as many Aussies want to get behind his causes, it is very important they continue.
I hope Terri can summon the strength to carry on as well. My heart goes out to her at this time.
Very sad for her and the children.

It was very unlucky the way Steve Irwin died. Where we swim in South Australia there are always stingrays there and it won't stop me from swimming there, but like you I will be conscience of my surroundings.
Please if you see Steve's wife and children pass on our best regards.
Steve you are an Aussie Legend no matter what people say.

i have explored the reef many times and in no way would this make me do anything differently. What happened to Steve is tragic, but he'd want us all to continue on loving wild life, supporting causes designed to preserve our environment including the new "crikey fund" and being apart of, exploring and enjoying the australian sea and land life....

plus you have a hell of lot more chances of being hit by a bus than being killed by a wild animal......infact theres more chances of plane falling out of the sky and landing on you than being taken by any sea creature.

I've been in enough life-threatening situations of my own that what's-his-name's death isn't going to make me any more aware of the fragility of life or more conservative with regard to animal life. He died. We all do, and all will, and I've damn near done it many times in my life, the last time having been near killed by being run over by a train and drug down the track 200 feet. Lost a leg, tore up my back, broke a rib and the remaining ankle I have and a bit more skinned here and there. So, his death sounds like it was quick and painless by comparison, by crikey! I just hope all the "mourning" over his death doesn't begin to sound like all the commercial trash over what's-her-name's death in England years ago. She was some kind of princess or queenie or something. Blonde hair and all. People thought she was something special too. Rich, yeah. Titled, yeah. Special? Not a chance. God Bless you.

it just reminds you that your time can come at any time and to make sure you don't say or do things that might be a last memory of you for someone else in your life.
