I read that you are home schooled, and I do not hold that against you. You are likely to be more educated than your government school counterparts.

However, the offer of a very responsible position involving financial management to a high school student sets off warning bells. First of all you must realize it is most unusual, no matter how intelligent you are, and how good your home schooling has been, to hire an inexperienced financial manager.. Most companies do not entrust financial responsibilities to anyone without an established track record. Unless the company is very small, financial management is not a part time job, either.

Second of all, you should be aware that as a senior manager of the company, you may be financially responsible for losses by the company or liable in lawsuits against the company.

It sounds to me as if your Father and the chairman are setting you up in a position to take a lot of responsibility, and I am wondering why they cannot find someone more experienced.
I am hoping my misgivings are wrong, but you would do well to go in with your eyes open. I am worried you may get some very interesting real-life experience.

You did not say whether you had planned to pursue higher education. If you do, I would recommend that you do not let this job or any other job interfere with your college education. If you can work without impacting your studies, then you might consider it. If the large and reputed company goes broke, you will have a high school diploma and some period of experience in a job to which you are probably unsuited. Do not let this strange opportunity sideline you.

I will offer you my honest advice. There will always be job opportunities, but learning opportunities become scarcer as you get older, because once you enter the work force, you will find it difficult to leave.

Don't give up your youth for this experience - since the chairman of the firm is a friend of the family, I'm sure this opportunity will be around when you can better appreciate it and learn from it.

You are still a child, although mature for your age. Don't grow up too quickly. I have worked since I was 14 because my folks were divorced, I rue losing so much of my childhood, as I was working while others were involved in other activities that I didn't have the time for.

Wishing you all the best.

Can't you get the experience working part time or as an intern in the company? It sounds like a great opp but you are still 14. I mean you can work and you will have a chance to finish your education no doubt. And of course being 14 there's a world to explore out there before sumerging in the work force with its drama.
The way school is so accesible nowadays won't make it harder. However, if you take up that much responsabilities as this young age you might burn out before you know it. Acquire your experience with a part time job that leaves you time to go to school as well and do normal teenage stuff (I said normal no crazy *wink*)

Of course you can read all our answers here but in the end the decision is yours. Do what makes you happy ;) and good luck! You seem like a responsible person who will do what's best for them.

As long as the job won't take up too much of your time or make you too tired to study, you should take it. You will learn a lot from it, and it will get your foot in the door for when you decide to work full-time.

Your P.S. says it all. At 14 years old you are still too immature to know when someone is pulling your leg and this friend of your fathers is certainly doing just that.

14 is really young, but I think you can do it. You seem to be really responsible.
