there was no antivenom.. he would have lived if it had not pierced his heart, and yes he did die doing what he loved so much, my heart just is so sad because he enjoyed his life so very much, and his family. So lets all pray for them that they have peace

Yeah, I thought his death was inevitable with the job that he had – but I did hate to hear what had happened. For his sake, I think that we should all think up a better story on how he met his end. You know something where he had to give his life to save a nest of baby crocodiles from a rare outback-anaconda. That would be a more fitting end to him.
On a personal note, I feel really bad for his wife and their two children. They had a great father who worked very hard to make this world a better place. We should all make sure that they know that when they get older.

Hi his name is spelt Steve Irwin..with an I..sorry just wanted to clear that up. His death has bought a lot of sadness into this world. He was loved by many countries..I know that his family and friends will be going through a real hard time right now but with each others support they will get through. I think Steve would have wanted everyone to get up of their butts and keep going. He would not have wanted to see people sitting around mourning him. The real sad thing is that his two kids Bindi and Bob have lost their dad!

Honestly I can't believe so many people are expressing "shock" about this guy's tragic demise. He risked life and limb on an almost daily basis people.... I'm amazed he hadn't gotten his face eaten off by a croc or a python or something long before now. It is sad for his wife and kids, but I'm sure they will be well taken care of.

Yes... sad... tragic... awful.... unbelievable.... unexpected... my prayers and thoughts go out to the grieving family!
How many more people think they have to add their two cents worth to this thing????? It's been asked to death (no pun intended). This line of questions started first thing this morning and if you'd looked, you'd have noticed that tons of other people have asked the same thing!!!

It came as a huge shock when I heard of his passing. I thought he was crazy but I respected him. To do what he did, took a special type of person. My aunt lives next door to his widow's parents in OR and the community is taking his death very very hard. He died doing what he loved to do.

I was soooooooooooooo sad when I heard about his death. All I could think about were his wife and kids, and how sad she must be. You could tell how in love they were when you watched them together and his passion for his children was as strong as his passion for nature. He's irreplacable and will be deeply missed.

Yes, I cried.
That probably sounds stupid, but it really is tragic.
I remember being little and watching his shows in wonderment and over the past few years I just stopped watching them.
So, now its just really sad.
You never know how much you miss someone until they're gone.

I think it is sad, but with the profession he had, it was bound to kill him sooner or later. He said that himself.
Unfortunately, I think a little bit of arrogance was to blame here (let the flaming of me begin).
He probably thought "oh no big deal, if I get stung I'll just use this handy dandy antivenom I have here".
He just wasn't counting on it piercing him like it did.
Regardless, yes, it is very sad. Especially for his two little children. Our prayers are with them and his wife.
