Is your weight normal? The recommendation by the Diabetic Association is to keep your blood sugar at 110 or below. You run the risk of killing your kidneys, slowing your ability to think and having a heart attack if you consistantly run high blood sugars. Use the diabetic meds to get your sugar down first, then talk to a nurtritionist about how to control it. The South Beach diet is a wonderful diabetic diet, moderate in carbs but filling. Definately get your sugar under control first! Then get creative.

losing weight is the best thing for you, green veggies, carrots are ok in limited ammounts, dairy thats low fat, cottage cheese, low fat milk, and yogurt that is artificially sweetened and low fat, cheeses are ok in limited ammounts. one slice of whole grain bread a day is ok , but no white bread, no potatoes, no white rice, a small ammount of brown rice is ok. like half a cup, no regular pasta, a small ammount of whole wheat pasta is ok. limit your pasta or rice to one or two a week, lean meats, chicken with no skin, fish, lean beef or ham. serving is about the size of the palm of your hand, no chips of any sort, no cookies of any kind, no cake , no pie , no icecream, small ammounts of fresh fruit, three or four grapes, a little watermellon or canteloupe, an orange or tangerine, a peach, are ok once a day, keep three or four triscuit crackers in your pocket in a baggie, if you get desperate eat one very slowly, whole grains are more slowly released in your blood than the old white flour and such. watch your salt and fat as well, only non nutrative sweeteners, so diet cola, or sodas. equal in your coffee or tea, and so on. there are lots more diabetic foods available than there used to be, its pretty restrictive as a diet till you really get your weight under control, then you can reintroduce some of the old foods, in very small ammounts. good luck.
