The song is by Peter and Gordon, from 1967. They were a popular duo from the British Invasion era. There were a number of popular songs around that time with that old-fashioned kind of sound. Peter Asher is the older brother of Jane Asher, Paul McCartney's girlfriend back in the 60s. He later went on to be a producer, working with Linda Ronstadt, among others.
