I can only type like 45 a minute, which isn't much compared to some people... how many can you type and do you look at the keyboard when you type?

Eighty-eight with no mistakes. However, I had 3 years in High School and 3 in College, I had planned on being a Legal Typist and they are not allowed to make mistakes or they have to start Contracts over from scratch, wasting all of that time. We used computers with no alphanumeric characters on the keyboards so you HAD to memorize them to be able to type (since the keyboards were blank). It was effective in making us memorize and learn the keyboard, especially the capitalized characters above the numbers.

I finally ended up with a degree in Network Engineering, lol. But at least I can type. : )

I was the slowest in all my college typing class. I only type 35 words per minute. I however am a very slow reader. I probably only read that fast too, so to me. I am as fast as I need to be.

I however was the most accurate typer in the class. I rarely type a letter off. I just am a bad speller basically when you see a spelling error.

There were other students that typed over 100 wpm, but they weren't accurate.

My end results is that some people can naturally type faster than others even with all the practice in the world, some people will just remain typing faster.

Wow....I see the last comments are from nine years ago. I learned to type when I was in middle school. We learned to not look at the keyboard. The instructor, or teacher, which ever you want to call him, would come around and put a piece of paper over our keyboard so we had to learn without seeing. I used to practice a lot. Not so much anymore but I just did a few repeat tests and it says I can type 50 words per minute. Helps when I read aloud what Im typing though. Im still probably the fastest in my family. I can also sense when I make a typo.

I look at the keyboard when I type difficult words.
I usually type about 50-55 words a minute in average.

A person's skill doesn't depend on how fast he/she type by looking or by not looking at the keyboard . A person typing less number of words than u can be more skilled person . I think u got my point .

Typing speed is a basic skill like driving or swimming. Some smartness and lot of practise will make you perfect. There are free typing tutor programs available too.

about 57 wpm, it would be faster but when I start flying my accuracy goes to crap. And no, I don't look at the keyboard when I type, except for numbers and symbols. Haven't gotten those down yet!
