I still haven't figured it out, I really like John Mayer & I like the John Mayer trio, I jsut wanna know which one was first

John Mayer (solo artist). He formed the John Mayer trio later.

John Mayer, singer/songwriter came first.
The greatly improved, Stevie Ray Vaughn influenced Trio came about 4 years later. Great CD!
