10 years ago I was a size 10. 5 years ago I was a size 8. Now I'm a size 6. My height and weight haven't changed, but the size numbers on the clothes that fit me have. Do you think stores are going to keep making their small sizes bigger? Should they?

You are correct when you talk about sizes getting smaller to flatter the average north american, it's just one of those marketing strategies to make people feel better and keep buying clothes just like in some upscale clothing stores that have fun house mirrors that make you look thinner and taller so that you can feel good about yourself. However, european sizes go from 1 to 3 (3 being the largest and about a medium) which make us feel like whales when we do try clothes on so that's not the best way to go either.

I think that in North America, the industry can still keep making their small sizes bigger: you'll have regular sizes (from say 0 to 18) for plump people , petite sizes (0 to 18) for regular people and larger sizes for obese. The truly petite people can either go to kids department or european boutiques.

Of course they shouldn't do that, but it's all about sales and profits. I think the best solution is to have standardize sizes for all countries and no more sugar coating.

I think it's getting ridiculous, but as America gets fatter, the definition of "small" changes. You hear all the time that Marilyn Monroe wore between a 12-16, she'd wear about a 6 now. Back then sizes didn't go much below an 8 though, which would be an 0-2 now. If you wanna feel like a cow, go check your size on a pattern...they still use the old 50's-60's sizes.

Anyway, I digress, but I think it is getting out of control mostly because of the health issues associated with obesity. It seems like for every skinny girl who thinks she's fat, there's three chubby girls who think they're small enough to wear something short & tight. If people gradually keep getting larger but stay the same "size," they might not realize they're getting bigger and putting their health in danger.

Yes, it is out of control. I used to be a size 0 or 2. Now there is no store that I can walk into and just pick something out to buy it. I dont make enough money to buy designer clothes which are generally made smaller. I am not sure why my small structure and healthy eating habits should be punished for someone's else's eating disorder (I hate to be rude, but the weight issues that our country has are the result of a collective over-eating problem).
