i get really annoyed at the phrase 9/11 - is it me or is it disrepectful to abbreviate such an event? wasnt it horrific enough to call it the september 11th attacks or cant people just be bothered to say it? 9/11 sounds like a rapper thing or a t shirt? It sounds very fox news and i dont like it. They started saying 7/7 on sky news (about our bombings) and it so seemed like they were following the trend and honestly, i dont think brit reporters were comfortable with it.

and when i think about it - 9/11 in the uk is the 9th of november - so maybe it needs to be said rather than drilled down to 4 letters/numbers

Yes,it does bring it down to the level of a cheap film. And you are right ,in Britain it makes it 9th November, so the date of the event should be spoken of as happening on September 11th, or 11th September.

I think you maybe getting a little caught up in the whole thing. Whatever you call it doesn't make it any less awfull. The phrase doesn't really mean anything! Its a point of reference. Im sure all the people affected by it don't feel better if you call it 9/11 or September 11th. Is it any different either way? I dont think so.

9 / 11 makes it sound more dramatic. as if it wasnt tragic enough.
Its like this would be a great title for a movie, not an act of murder in which thousands lost their lives.
Who really done 9 / 11 where did the airplane go that was supposed to have flown into the penthagone, where did its parts go, no wings no fuselage,no engines? Photos taken immediatly after the crash?????? showed no airplane.

I know what you mean. To be honest though I think they've talked it to death. I'm not sure what can come of talking about it now, time maybe to move forward. There will always be people in the world that think war is a solution.
Even now they still want to bring up Diana now and then in some new documentary. Investigations are one thing, documentaries are another.

I also thought just like you but right there in the back of my head.I think you worded this perfectly. 9/11 and ground zero are both typical american terminology that is really annoying. It's just corny and tacky. I watched a programme on it earlier and it still sends shivers down my spine.
