Place an ice cube in a baggie.
Put ice on gum in carpet.
Wait until gum completely freezes.
Scrape gum from carpet using a dull knife, such as a butter knife.

You can try ice all you want, but I've had the best luck with GoJo. You can find it in the automotives aisles in Walmart or somewhere like that. It's a hand cleaner that gets oil and grease off hands, clothes etc. but it also works wonders on carpets! It got gum and red koolaid out of my white carpet! I won't ever go without it now! It's the best thing I've ever used as far as cleaning products go!

With a cold rag or a piece of ice. This will make the gum harden up for easy removal. Good luck...AL~

At Home Depot and other places in the paint section there is something called Goof Off. It leave a stink that can be taken up with soap and water.
If nothing else on this list works, go buy that. Any good paint section knows about it.

Warm vinegar in the microwave them pour on the gum. Wait a minute or two then gently scrape the gum off with a butter knife. Repeat. The key here is that the vinegar must be warm to hot

Place ice cubes on top of the gum. When the gum has hardened from the cold ice cube, it should come up easily by being picked off.
This has worked for me.

With a chain saw, gently cut around the effected area as to not damage the surrounding carpet.
When you have cut through the floor remove the damaged area and throw away.
Re-apply a new wood floor, padding and carpet square and you are done.

I've heard several ways to do this. I've heard that mayonnaise will remove it. I've heard that peanut butter will remove it. But in each of those things you have to deal with the oil stain left behind. I've also heard that ice will make it quite hard and then you can pick it out. That sounds tedious, but it is supposed to work. There is also a product called Goo Gone. It works well too, but again the oil stain.

ice...set the ice atop the gum and let sit...it will harden and you should be able to remove most of it...what you cannot get off with ice, you will have to cut the rest out. (it wont be noticable)

Freeze it with ice, you will then be able to pick it out of the carpet.
