I thought it was if you dislike another race(regardless of your own race) you were racist. i think she was wrong do you. do you also find it wrong that she called the 'White' race superior above all others. I think we are all equal.

For somebody to say that one race is above any, let alone all the rest, is completly selfish, discriminating and untrue. We all have our own beliefs and religions but are all living in an equal society and you are smart to realize this and know that your spanish teacher is wrong.

My Australian Studies tutor always tells us, because we are white, we were born racist. She says it is second nature to us and that it isn't our fault, we were just brought up that way. She says that if we saw an Aboriginal person we would immediately think that they were 'a drongo' or 'poorly educated' or 'alcohlic petrol sniffers'. She says that even if we think that we aren't racist, which 99% are not, that we still are and that she's not because 'she's studied the Abriginal people' and 'she has an intimate knowledge of their culture' and 'she understands the entire notion of being culturally inclusive'. Then she goes on to say that our subject is called 'Un-Australian Studies' and that the Australian Government is an example of white race power even though that 'there's no such thing as race'. ???? GO FIGURE! She makes it clear that she hates the Government and even complains when offered by more hours work by Jobnet . She says that she can easily find more hours at the University but she just wants them to 'waste time and money' finding her a job. She then rings them every day and hounds them asking 'have you found me a job yet' knowing full well that they haven't. She says that the Government wont apologise for the 'invasion' and the 'stolen generation' and no matter what they do for the Aboriginal people (Buy them houses, buy them cars, give them allowances and concessions) that it will never be enough and that the Government is creating the problem and 'Killing them with kindness'. She says that they don't want to be considered part of Australia or 'equal' and that 'Aboriginal' and 'Australia' are not Aboriginal terms so they don't accept these as the names for their culture and country. They say of the Emu and Kangaroo that 'they're our animals' and then go as far to steal the official emblem off of old parliament house. John Howard has expressed his sorrow at how the Aboriginal people were treated but 'he wont apologise because he didn't do anything wrong' and good on him. I appreciate that the Aboriginal people were here for 40,000 years and that their culture was all but destroyed and I think that most Aboriginal people are some of the nicest and knowledgeable people you could meet but let me ask you this 'WHAT THE HELL DO THEY WANT?' They don't want financial aid then complain that the Government isn't doing enough. They don't want to be considered under 'one Australia' then complain that they aren't represented. Well I'm sorry to say but we're not just going to get up and leave. We're not giving your country back.

No the White Race is not superior to all others. All races are equal. There are also plenty of racists in other races too. Try living in Colorado, New Mexico or Maryland and tell me there aren't racists in other races. I'm bi racial and have gotten racism all kinds of ways. Your teacher sounds like an idiot.

Your Spanish teacher is an idiot. How is white the superior race?? Whites are a minority these days. There is more Asians, Hispanics, African-American than there are white people..Don't get me wrong there are still ignorant white people, there are ignorant asses in every race. But too say only the white man can be racist ...in my book that makes your teacher racist.

No, you don't have to be white to be racist - you just have to generalize and make judgements about someone else based on skin color (or culture, if you want to branch out and be a bigot, in addition to being a racist).

The thing about being a racist is that your point of view has more weight, in terms of what happens around you, if you have more power. A white racist has more power over someone non-white in an environment where most people are white. A black racist has more influence where most people are black.

Racism is scary, in part, because it sneaks in - most racists are not obvious ones, and it's human nature to try to categorize anything you see/experience/encounter (we want to believe we'll know what to expect next time we encounter that, so if you meet one hispanic guy, and he's a jerk, a part of your brain wants to say, "Okay, all guys who look like him will be jerks - now I know what to expect and can plan accordingly").

Racism can exploit that normal human trait to create hatred, because we want to believe we can figure out how everything works, and what to expect, and in some cases, people want to create categories of other people who are okay to abuse, because we see them as "not like us."

People, however, are complicated and not easily classified. I don't know anyone who doesn't have some preconceived notion about other people - all we can do is remember that none of us can predict what other people are like without getting to know them.

So. Anyone can be a racist (gee, what a great thing to aspire to), but whether or not your racism has any effect depends on the situation.

Try, as hard as we may, I think we all are a little racist, no matter how hard we try or say that we aren't, it has always been like that, I think to some degree it has gotten better, I remember when I was very young, I lived in a little Pa. town, the names that people called each other were crazy, some of them were called KRAUTS, KIKES.HUNKY,DAGO,DUMB POLLACKS, I can't remember the other ones, oh I almost forgot the GYPSIES, they all came over on a boat and landed at Ellis Island, It makes you wander what they were told about these different groups when they were young.
It was mind boggling to say the least, but although they hated one another they all helped one another

Your Spanish teacher is ignorant. Our society has a natural preference towards the white race and its features. What is interesting is that it is so ingrained into us that even an African American can be racist against African Americans without realizing it. I read an interesting book recently called "blink". It is about how most decisions can be made in a blink of an eye through inherent calculations our brain makes upon immediately seeing something. One of the tests discussed in the book was for racism. There were four categories, good, bad, white, and black. Two different tests were performed where you are asked to categorize items in a list as either these four things. In one of the test the categories white and good, black and bad were placed next to each other. Then white and bad, black and good were placed next to each other. The racism index was calculated based on the amount of time it took to hesitate to place something good next to the category black. What was phenomenal about the test is that the author who underwent the testing had a racism index where he hesitated to put good thing next to the black category, and did not hesitate when good was next to white. He was African American, and stunned by the results.

Your teacher is racist and was very wrong in saying that statement. White people can't even be proud of their heritage without being called racist. If you notice, there aren't many white organizations that benefit white students for scholarships and things - because it would be considered racist - but there are tons for Hispanics, Blacks, etc. We are all equal, but I do think that other races are racist against white people.

I am not from white race as I am Asian. I am also muslim. So I have experienced being discriminated by other people who is racist. You can look at Palestine- Jew conflict, I feel so pity to Palestinian because they have benn discriminated by Jew. Even Arabs also discriminated them. Even in my workplace there is a race discrimination. I think no only white people, every body who thinks they are better than other race also can become racist.
This racism issue, in my opinion will never been solve until at the end of the world.

Actually, the "white" race only makes up about 10% of the worlds population. Racism can come in many forms and from more than just white folks. In my personal experiences, non-whites have had the tendency to be the most racist. 'Course, I do live in Utah.
