No. Because each nation is sovereign, and subject to its own laws.

The US has no more right to enforce our laws on other countries, than other countries do to order us to follow their laws. In fact, the entire origin of the US was in opposition to the concept of one nation ordering another around.

The only 'right' the US has is to wage war to get what it wants. And that's not enforcing the law as police. That's imposing law, like an empire.

No, we are really no better suited than anyone else to claim jurisdiction over world peace. The US has been acused of war crimes, political corruption, etc - - -what makes us qualified to mold the rest of the world into our image in a supposed effort for world peace?

I'm not saying that the US is a bad place to live - - but we have our problems too and if we become self proclaimed world police - -its like having the fox in the hen house.

Besides -- what standard for moral and ethics will we use? Social Relitivism? Absolutism? Who would determine that? How would it be enforced? You can't have one group making the rules for an entire world.

In John Steinbeck's "The Moon is Down" the soldiers occupying the town are discussing the situation their country is in. "We've conquered half the world, we must police it for a while."

I'm not comparing the U.S. to the soldiers in that book, but I am saying that we have an obligation to help out however we can. The problem is when we overstep our boundaries...

Not unless we want to hurt lots of people and make even more people hate us with a passion.

I think it's best to address what concerns us as a nation, but not go around interfering in things that we have no legitimate reason to be involved in.

No I sure don't. The world doesn't contribute to our economy so we can police the world. Besides that, we can't even police ourselves, let alone anyone else.

We shouldn't have to be; however, the problem is that so many other countries send us their tired, their poor, their huddled masses yearning to breathe free... that we end up having to settle their problems over there, to keep them from spilling out onto our shores. Too bad, isn't it.
