We're thinking about buying a snowblower/thrower for this winter as we no longer have a truck with a plow on it. You all gave us some good lawn mower suggestions. So, what is the best brand and/or model in the reasonable price range?

Tecumseh is an excellent brand. You pay a few more bucks for it, but it is well worth the extra dollars spent. I would recommend a 2-stage as well. Typically $1000 is a limit I might suggest, since Most brands fall under this figure as well.

Best Brand Of Snowblower

From experience purchase a two-stage thrower. First stage collects and chops up snow; second stage throws snow some distance. It may not seem necessary when first shopping for a snow thrower, but buy one which is 9 hp (horse power) or larger. The others are too small to handle the wet, heavy snow. I would buy an 11 hp Toro. Many exceptional features.

My 12hp Ariens two stage serves me quite well. I live in upper Michigan where we get plenty of snow. I went with the 12hp because I have a 60 foot driveway and then I make a 100 ft trail out to my apple trees so that I can fill my bird feeders. Then there is the trail I have to make to the south side of the hooch for the city meter reader. Heaven forbid should the city not be able to read my meter and send that big ole electric/water bill every month:)

Ariens has always been known to have one of the best if not the best snowblowers out there - they invented them. However Simplicity, Toro & Honda also have excellent units that will last a long time.
