Isolated showers - the chance of getting measurable precipitation for the given time period is less than 30 percent.

Scattered showers - the chance of measurable precipitation for the given the time period is 30 percent or higher...but less than 60 percent.

The word showers would indicate that rain will likely not occur everywhere in the forecasted area at a given time...but will develop over one spot and will move across to another spot in the forecast area after a period of time.

According to where I live it means that it will be raining like all get out in one small city and totally dry in the other not very wide apart as to isolated showers. As to scattered showers it means if you are driving down the road it will be sunny then raining so hard that you cannot see through it then sunny then raining so hard you can barely see through it. I live in Florida the Sunshine state. It happens also in Lousiana and they have lots of wrecks in such conditions because some people stop and do not barely move or even pull off the road while others drive like it is not raining through the scattered or isolated heavy thunder showers. So my suggestion is if you are not from the region do not come during hurricane season because these are very common here during that time and dangerous for inexperienced. It also means if you pull over in a scattered or isolated shower and think it will move on wrong it may rain right in that little or big patch for two days straight and after awhile you have to get out to use the privy or eat or sleep. So drive very slowly with your hazards on keep an eye on the lines on the road and get to the nearest town with a fast food place. Also same happens periodically with fog drive on but drive slowly. I am use to it after many years so I just keep driving. As far as the news goes ask them or look it up but when they say this stuff that is what I have experienced.

Isolated showers are lonely and depressed, they have no friends, and no one talks to them. Scattered showers are more like people with A.D.D., running around all OVER the place, start a flood, but can't finish it before moving on to the next storm.

Seriously, isolated means they will pop up singly in a region, while scattered means there might be rain in multiple locations.

Isolated:
A National Weather Service convective precipitation descriptor for a 10 percent chance of measurable precipitation (0.01 inch). Isolated is used interchangeably with few.

Scattered:

Isolated means that the chances are minimal, but when they say scattered, it means that the chances are high.
