I have been talking with this guy for several months and I am going to meet him for the first time this weekend in Boston. I was wondering if anyone had some cool ideas for a small gift to give him when I meet him at the airport. I thought about flowers, but that seems too routine. Any other ideas?
Thanks!

Im a Bostonian ( Bay Village location to be exact)

For what you told us, You've been talking to this guy for several months and I know for sure that you know what he likes and dislikes. I'm a very romantic guy, I think flowers are great. But just dont get him something common. I mean roses are wicked cool dont get me wrong but it's not my fave. I prefer calla lillies.
If you dont like flowers, go to Copley square. Buy him some chocolate. Govida chocolate is a great idea. I know they have something that already been gift wrapped. Great present actually. A cute bracelet or a cufflinks are wicked awesome as well.
It doesnt really matter what you give him. This is the first time you are going to meet this guy. And im guessing that you like him and he likes you too. Just be yourself, take him to lunch or dinner, book a reservation at paparazzi ( my fave italian restaurant) the one in Dartmouth St. Have fun and Enjoy his visit.

Take care... Say HI if you see me around Boston .....

If you have been talking to him for a couple of months then you will know what type of music he likes. Make a home made CD of all the songs he loves and then design the cover yourself. Home-made gifts like this always make men feel like you have taken the time and not just bought some 5 dollar flowers on the way.

I agree that flowers are too generic, but give him a twist on flowers. Like give him a chocolate rose or candy flowers and a card that says something to the effect of "I missed you". Good luck together though, I live near Boston. Great city. Great places to eat, I'd suggest Anthony's Pier 4. Great seafood. Good luck! Oh! And go to Harvard square, You'll love it! It's a very accepting place for any couple, take your boyfriend to J.R. Burddicks chocolates, I think thats the name... anyway great chocolates, very rich. And expensive, but if your going for charm, try the chocolates, works every time. Good luck Prince Charming! You go boy!

You are smart to meet him in a public place like an airport. First on my list would be chocolates. I like Godiva, but use your best judgement. Also you could get him something from your part of the country that you like.

If the above doesn't do it for you, what does he like to do in his spare time? You've been communicating for months - I assume you have some idea. If he goes to book stores get him a borders gift card, if he likes shopping for clothes get him a gift card at his favorite store.

Wow, a gift before the first date. I don't know. Especially in that you'll be meeting somewhat in public, I'd be careful about something showy, like flowers. You didn't say where you are from, but is there something from your home that you might bring along (even pack and give it to him when you get to the hotel or hisplace or wherever you are staying?)
I'd even consider skipping the first date gift, and send flowers or something when you return home, but if you must, keep it simple and not overly personal.

I'm straight and I'm looking for an answer to this question at the exact same time!!!

A single rose?
Some little knick-nack representative of something you've discussed by phone or email?
Some kind of unusual chocolate?

I think you're looking for something he can take back as a souvenir of the date (which hopefully goes well!). Depending on how 'big' you're thinking.... a key chain novelty from Boston?

How about a small book on one of his interests?

I'd be interested in seeing more responses to this question too!

If you want, get him 1/2 bouquet of say daisies for picking you up at the airport. Its not too romantic and its still says I've got a heart, but I'm not pushy. And, tell him they are for thanking him for his troubles, so no pressure there : )

But, what WE don't know is how far you're relationship with this gentleman has progressed over the months online and over the phone. So, if you DO FEEL CLOSE TO HIM, PLEASE GET HIM WHATEVER YOU FEEL HE WOULD ENJOY, after all, you do know him better than us! So, if you feel Flowers are appropriate, GO WITH YOUR HEART, after all, he's attracted to you without seeing you, and so if this is so, its your personality that has been rocking his world, so don't waste your time asking us, you already KNOW what pleases him simply by the months of speaking to him, you've listened to his wants and wishes, his desires and dreams, what floats his boat and turns him off. So, think back and try to please him! You've made him happy this far, I don't think your going to blow it with flowers.

If he likes wine...a nice bottle of red or white wine. It would help if I knew something about the person. From the top of my head, a bottle of wine is the only thing that comes to mind. Usually, when I go see my relatives in France I buy them something small, a souvenir from where I am living now (Ontario, Canada)...and then I get them a really nice gift before I leave, to say thank you. I don't know if this has been any help to you... but I wish you luck and a good and safe trip!
