Did the Republican Congressman elected in '94 lie about term limits?

Why are they running for re-election in 2006? They are breaking their "Contract with America."

You actually expect the majority of Americans to even remember back 12 years, let alone try to hold Congressmen accountable for their actions?

The "Contract With America" did NOT promise that each Republican in a Republican-majority Congress would voluntarily limit themselves to 12 years nor did it promise that such a Congress would actually pass term limits. The promise was that Congress would actually hold a VOTE on whether or not to enact term limits. That is all the "Contract" promised, that the items in the contract would be voted on instead of being locked up in committee.

Some individual Republicans who promised to limit themselves to only a certain number of terms DID break their promise. And the fact that they did will be used by their opponents -- not necessarily succesfully. Democrats break campaign promises too. Campaign promises are like New Year's Resolutions -- thrown together at the last minute without much thought as to how they can be gracefully broken.
