His death was a surprise only because of the circumstances. If he were to have been bitten by a snake or chewed to death by a crocodile, it would have been no surprise. What was surprising was that an ordinarily docile and usually non-lethal stingray got him right square in the heart. What are the odds? That's what is surprising.

I was shocked ! I read about it, in Polls and Answers, and I just couldn't believe it. I thought someone was kidding.
But then when I went to my front page, it was really there !!
Very very sad !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But then, if you're talking about it REALLY being a surprise with what he did for a living, no...not really.
It's been all over the news, and there's this one clip where he's being very serious, and admitted it was a very dangerous thing that he did.
Kinda like Roy of Seigfeld and Roy. They did that act for many years before something bad happened. But they knew there was always a chance.

It could be a government conspiracy! How do we know if that's what really happened or not? None of us have seen the video.. But other than that, I'm not surprised.. you play with the bull, you get the horns, y'know? He was an entertaining man and I respect the love he had for animals and also the courage he had.

No. I was just surprised that it wasn't a crocodile. Steve Irwin died doing what he loved.

He wasnt a dumbass. He knew his stuff and when you watched his shows you could see his passion for animals just glowing. It is very sad to hear that he has passed away. He was probably one of the most well known animal lovers in the world.

Not really surprised, just at what did it. Steve was a deredevil. I had always figured that someday something would get him. But I thought it would be a snake or croc.

who thought that he was going to be eaten by a crocodile? I sure did and i bet he did to. It is very rare to be killed by a stingray, but it just hit him close to the heart. How very sad, he is leaving behind a very nice wife and two children. But at least he got to go out doing what he loved, we should all be so lucky.

It's a very big shock to everyone. I don't think that people thought that he would die this way even tho he played around with dangerous animals and all. I sure is sad and he will be missed very much!

Yes, because being killed by a stingray isn't very common and is kind of a freak accident type of thing. Usually when they sting you it hurts real bad, but you will be fine. It was freakish that he got pierced in the heart and died because of it.
