Seems mighty convenient to me that American's have been bitching and complaining about gas prices for the last 2 years and now all of a sudden with midterm elections coming up and the possibility that republicans will have to actually do some work to stay in control that gas prices start to drop. Coincidence? I think not, this country has gone to hell since republicans took over and I have a good feeling that if they stay in control after the elections are over gas prices will once again go back up. Must be nice for the big oil companies to be in with this party. I wish I made 60k a day profit for doing nothing but say I'm raising prices because of the mere possibility of a supply disruption even though there has been none except for the BP oil field in alaska shutting down.

Actually prices don't usually drop before a big holiday weekend so the excuse that it's the end of the summer driving season doesn't rest well with me. Kind of odd they would drop before the holiday instead of after.

Your observation is well taken. Gas prices do not normally drop until "after" Labor Day week-end. The Republicans are in trouble "big time" and this administration stock piled fuel this past summer so that they could release it on the market and lower the price before the election. This is so-o Rovian! You will see the price rise after the election, as the middle east is still very unstable.

in the previous the 04 election, Prince Bandar of Saudi Arabia met with Bush and agreed to flood the marketplace with oil to help with Bush's re-election. Bandar freely admitted this in an interview with Bob Woodward. so some distance as Bush monkeying(no pun meant) with gas expenses by way of his Saudi connections this time is every physique's wager.

I am still paying $3.30 gallon for 87 octane. We have had the highest gas price in the nation all summer. I don't even drive if I am not going to work and back. Its just sad that the prices come down before an election if that is a historical trend. That means they have been sapping us all along. I hope we get fuel cells sooner rather than later.

You personally have more control over gas prices than all politicians put together. And yes, gas prices drop at about this time every year.

It is convenient, but I assure you the republicans are not that smart.
It is a simple market force. After labor day the amount of driving goes down. This lowers demand and this lowers the price.
The good news is that the money that Mideast terrorists have been making from George W's oil first policy will be less because of this.

P.S. Cartman, pleas take the sock out of your shorts.

Gas prices have dropped because the chemicals added in the hotter month's are not being added they increase the cost. The chemicals are added to decrease the amount of vaporization of the fuel.

I am not certain that these chemicals are being used in Sept 4ths fuel. It does effect the cost of fuel when it is added and then removed.

Hey, I'm just glad the prices dropped. Still, it does seem like coincedence. Same with gay marriage. Why, all of a sudden, after two years, is this topic being brought up again with election year in full swing?

It does seem kind of coincidental doesn't it? I know in California with the upcoming election of prop 87 with the prospect of raising gas prices if it passes {as said by the oil companies} seems particular coincidental. It seems that the oil companies should be doing everything to keep the price down regardless of whether they would have to help pay for another source of energy.......
