Downhill:
Okemo, which is in southern Vermont, has a good mountain. It tends to be pretty touristy though.

I grew up skiing Burke mountain which has some good, challenging runs on it and tends to be low key. It's the kind of place that the locals ski at.

Cross-country: Burke has a cross country trail, but I recommend looking for hiking/walking trails that have snow on this for a cheaper and more challenging ski.

Jay Peak in northern Vt (near the Quebec border) is Awesome .. Stay at the Grey Gables Mansion (ggmansion.com) for the ultimate experience. (I used to be the Innkeeper there). There are also 5 mountains in Canada (like Mt Sutton) to ski also.
Mid and southern Vt also offer a plethora of mountains to ski ..(like Stowe Mtn) anywhere you go in Vt .. you will find great skiing.

Killington (just outside of Rutland) is very good. They have
all levels of difficulty, several different courses to choose from,
plus a range of after-ski things to do. Go to their web site
for more information.
