"Since Hitler was photographed warmly shaking Neville Chamberlain’s hand at Munich in 1938, the only image that comes close to matching it in epochal obsequiousness is the December 1983 photograph of Mr. Rumsfeld himself in Baghdad, warmly shaking the hand of Saddam Hussein in full fascist regalia. Is the defense secretary so self-deluded that he thought no one would remember a picture so easily Googled on the Web?"

Will Rummy point at his pic with Saddam & say...
There are known knowns.
These are things we know that we know.
There are known unkowns.
That is to say, there are things we know we don't know.
But, there are also unknown unknowns.
These are things we don't know we don't know.

DAM* IT I JUST DON'T KNOW
SCREAMS RUMMY!

You refer to the Johari Window, which encompasses the four windowpanes of life:

1. Things that we know about ourselves, that others know too
2. Things that we do NOT know about ourselves, but that others DO know about us.
3. Things that only we know about ourselves, that others do not know.
4. Things that we do not know about ourselves and others do not know either.

At the time that picture was taken, Rumsfeld could say "The enemy of my enemy is my friend', which is typical in the Middle East.

In the dynasties of ancient China, allegiances among or between warlords could be changed at the drop of a hat.

So what else is new? There is nothing new; it has all been done before. Rumsfeld is no different.

I truly wish he was but he's served under many Administration and aside from political acuity, the man also has resolve and in his own way is very smart. But most importantly, he knows how Washington works. Aside from Bush, I wouldn't underestimate anyone in this administration. I might not agree with them but I do admire them.
