why must the production of lithospere be going on at approximately the same rate? please answer both questions if possible.thanx

The lithosphere is the Earth's crust, and it is consumed underneath the world's oceans in places called "subduction zones." If it weren't also being created at the same rate, the Earth's crust would no longer be able to cover the entire mantle, and patches of lava would become exposed. This doesn't happen.
