I'm a truck driver,I am constantly looking on the map,a small dot means a town, the bigger the dot the bigger the city.
If it has a circle with a star in it ,it's a capital city.
I hope this helps.

you have the two have been given a no-see-um on your map (a florida mosquito) or you're finding at a small city. the bigger factors have a dot with a circle around it, and the capital often has a action picture star. There might desire to be a legend on the backside of the map, telling you what is what.

You should try looking in the key/legend for what the symbol means, and most commonly in maps, you will find that a black dot usually represents a city. =^^= Hope this helps and I wish you and your child luck.

Every map should have a "KEY" box that will tell you all of the symbols for that map
