It will take upwards of an hour depending on how fast your computer is. Go make a hot cuppa and get a sandwich while your at it.

Depends, on my laptop it would take hrs. But on my computer I am sure it would take alot less. It also depends on how much space you got free as well as how bad your disk is defragmented. If you are doing a pretest which shows the fragments in the computer and you see alot of red lines - it means its pretty bad and might take while.

After you done, you don't need to do anything else. Defraging reorganizes files on the hard drive to be in logical order. The reson why the hard drive get degragmented is because when the file are stored on the computer, the computer just throgh them on where it can see an empty space and does not care about the order.

So do this in order do a clean disk (start then programs then accessories then system tools then clean disk relax then check all blocks and OK) Next do a spyware check good free programs spybot and ad ware se do a search easy to find. then depending on your windows If 98 under system tools, got XP then click on "My Computer" then "Properties" then "tools" then" skddisk" then "c" drive will have block to fix check it the OK then restart after that def rag. (Make sure nothing else running no other programs. If don't work then start safe and do. If your first time it will take a long time. Next time once a week

PCs require regular housekeeping just like home, and, if this is your first housecleaning, and you have been using your PC for a while, it may take a few hours. However, if you do it regularly, it won't take long. We are advised to clean house every two weeks. Sounds like a pain, but it pays off in speed.

- Are you using a complex screensaver - it runs in the background and eats memory. I had fun with mine, then changed it to blank.
- How many programs do you load at startup? Maybe you should check it out and ensure you are running just what you need.

It can take from 30mins to up to 2 hours depending on the speed of the computer and the capacity of hard drive and the amount of fragmentation.
