Well, there are two catogeries as to how to speed up your computer, involve paying versus free. If you have money to spend then the simple answer is to add more RAM and install the fastest CPU. This is the easy part.

If money is tight then there are numerous tweaks to speed up your computer. I assume you are using a Windows platform (e.g. Windows 2000 or Windows XP). Here is an article which might help:

go in your trash can, empty it. then go through all the files on your computer and anything you can do without, delete it. everything on your computer is one more thing to load wich eventually slows it down. like think, do you really need the solitaire games on your computer? or that crazy looking screen savor? and if you have alot of pictures on your computer go to a websight such as piczo.com or photobucket.com upload them onto there, and delete them from your computer. that in itself will save you so much space and will really speed up your computer. there are also little chips or whatever you can buy to speed it up. oh and one more thing, check your computer for viruses or spyware every couple weeks and i gauruntee you have spyware on your computer right now and getting rid of it will speed it up as well. i know all this stuff becasue my old computer was slow as my grandma. lol

Go to START
Then RUN
Type MSCONFIG then hit OK
Go to the STARTUP tab
Uncheck all the applications that you do not recognize as needing to run in the background of your computer.

For example, keep your antivirus, but remove Real Player.
