I got my first horse at a rescue shelter when I was twelve. She was relatively cheap, ($1000), and she turned out to be the most incredible horse I have ever ridden. I would say, try a rescue, some of the horses are permanently lame, old, have health issues, etc, but my horse was younger, perfectly healthy aside from being skinny, and we went on to barrel race, western pleasure, jump, trail ride, etc. If you find one you like, just get it thoroughly checked out by a vet, and make sure they ride well.
:-) Worth a shot! Good luck....

Check out the closest auction near you. they typically meet during the week once or twice a month. Be aware that the horses are sometimes drugged, or may have behavioral problems. Show up EARLY and look around before the auction, ask questions. I found my horse at an auction, but he needed a lot of work. Now I wouldn't trade him for the world!

while you're rather on a good funds, think of supermarkets! They sell a stable selection of buckets and powerful brooms. A backyard centre might have forks/shovels and wheel barrows - all plenty extra decrease priced that your actually "horse stuff" some larger Tesco s/markets have a "puppy section" the place you may get some brushes for as low as £2.00 and 60p for different bits n products. take a glance around your section for Horse clothing revenues" The interior of reach animal charities might have been given horsey stuff which they don't need like rugs, tack, etc..and have a regular sale, in simple terms as them. do not ask, don't get.
