I have to turn the motor off then restart in neutral, then put into other gears, [drive or reverse] Any ideas what's up?

There is a safety switch that does not allow you to shift into other gears from Park unless you depress the brake. My guess is that switch is malfunctioning & ignoring whether or not you're depressing the brake.

nicely dang the oil is meant to get replaced each and every 3000 miles or 3 months, before you pass assuming the worst i should be for starting up the truck on some scheduled upkeep first, probable that is an rather mild blue smoke which could be the first indication that in case you do not commence quickly you'll finally end up replacing the entire engine, so change the oil and filter out now and take it from there. And in case you even imagine you're resuming one of those upkeep, evaluate a man made oil like mobil a million OR do them on an typical schedule (each and every 3k / 3 months, whichever comes first).

If you can shift out of park, at all, then it isn't your brake switch, as you have to depress the brake, to shift out of park, whether the motor is on or off.

If it does not go, or hesitates when in gear, you may have low tranny fluid. Check the level after the engine has warmed up, and make sure you're full.
