Congratulations!!
I hope you do something nice to celebrate, like have a special family meal or get your parents to buy you something nice, or maybe a sleep over with your friends.
If you had blood on your underwear chances are that you did start your period, 14 is very much a normal age to get your first period. Talk to your mother or older sisters about it, when they got their first period is normally a good judge of when you will get yours, they will be able to tell you if you have gotten your first period or not and help you out from there.
What you use is up to you, there are over twenty different menstrual options including tampons, pads, free-flow or menstrual cups, commercial tampons are actually the most harmful so I personally would say that it would have been better to get pads, but the final choice is up to you. Educate yourself on the risks and options, in all fairness no one who knows the full risks and issues surrounding tampons use them, most women I know who use internal menstrual products use menstrual cups like Divacup or Instead rather than tampons.

You are right in the middle of the normal age to start your period. Go and buy some pads, as you will not bleed much in the first few months...normally to use tampons, but that too is a personal preference. If you have more questions, call a local clinic, or check with an adult that you trust. Don't worry, it's a part of being a woman.

I would choose pads until you adjust to your periods and get familiar with how they go.
Tampons are fine but you have to remember not to leave them in and for a while your periods are likely to be light. Tampons can give you a very serious infection if not changed regularly and since your periods will be light until you have them a while, I really think pads are the better choice for you while you adjust.

Yes. you should wear pads for the first 2-3 years. that way you can get used to your flow, and that helps with what absorbency tampon to buy. you need to know what tampon absorbency to buy so you don't get TSS which can be deadly. talk to your mother and make sure that you get the right supplies.Congrats!

Can you talk to your mom about this? You probably did get it, I don't think it really matters if you use tampons or pads, its your comfort level that will have to determine that. You'll be fine, it happens to the best of us.

You can get your period at your age. My niece is 11 and she just got hers. I do not recommend tampons for the first few times. My mother gave them to me and they hurt. I recommend sanitary napkins.
Congratulations on becoming a woman!
