NL: If the Phillies get in the playoffs, it's gotta be Ryan Howard. He may win it anyway, but I believe that only in an extreme case can the most VALUABLE player come from a non-playoff team. So in that case my vote would go to Carlos Beltran.

AL: Ortiz being sidelined combined with the Red Sox' collapse has thrown this one wide open. Jeter isn't even the most valuable player on the Yankees (Rivera is and ARod may be ahead of him too), so he's out. Hafner won't be in the playoffs and neither will Dye probably. That leaves Mauer, but I have a hunch he'll fade a bit in September since he's going to be used as a DH more when he's not catching.

So the AL is tough. If the White Sox end up close to a playoff spot, I think Dye might be the best choice even if they don't make it in.

Ryan Howard. The Phillies are in the hunt and he is only 12 batting points behind Pujols and is running away with the other titles, not just in the National League, but in the Major Leagues, plus, he has carried the team almost single handedly since the all star break, which no other candidate has done. Has anyone seen what he has done in the past two weeks? AL Jermaine Dye but I believe that Jeter will win it because he's a Yankee and this is his best season and because he's Derek Jeter and he hasn't won one yet.

American Leaugue Jeter because he is the best all around player and he is a great source of rallies for the Yanks. Nation League Albert Pujols again a great all around player with power numbers
