I have a dell pc with a single 256 DDR SDRAM. But sometimes is really slow and tends to frezze when i leave it alone for one hour or longer and it really gets me mad. Or is there anything else that would fix this problem?

Yes, upgrading the Ram will help somewhat to speed up your machine. Windows makes use of a swap file on your harddrive to compensate for a lack of physical memory, but as the harddrive is a mechanical device, reading and writing data to it is much slower than when using RAM.
Although the problems you seem to be having are not necessarly to do with the amount of memory you have in your machine, i'd suggest you defrag your drive, check to see which programs are being started up (there are various utilities available on the net FREE), do a complete virus scan as many viruses can cause the machine to slow down. Your question is a little ambiguous. When you say memory stick do you mean a usb key, or memory card? If that's what you are referring to then that doesn't actually upgrade your system memory. The lady from CyberTechHelp.Com is right, you need to install RAM, which is distinct from memory cards/sticks in that they are installed on the motherboard. My suggestion is to take your pc to computer repair place and ask for a RAM upgrade. **384MB limit is in laptops, 128MB onboard expandable to 384MB with a 256MB RAM chip.

Yes buying more RAM would be the thing to do. Because 256 ram is low now adays.
If you don't want to purchase any RAM, you can use this cool program I found a while back which frees up memory, by doing Crtl + M for example.
Its called MemTurbo look it up on Google or Yahoo. Its for Free too!

Everybody is shouting Ram! Ram! Ram! but have you thought about tuning? More ram will increase performance only if you are utilising all your currently available ram, Windows is very wasteful and the more programs (popup blockers, adware removers etc) you run the slower it will be.
I have a Dell running a Pentium 4@1.7Ghz with 256mb and it runs just fine, but then again I tune Windows quite dramatically.

I would add another 256 DDR stick to complement the first. I would also scan for spyware and optimize the startup files to maximize performance.

256 of RAM is the bare minimum that Windows will work on, so adding some more RAM is bound to help. You have to realize that your PC is working it's butt of trying to operate on that little memory.

my computer was similar to yours. When you bought your dell, it came with an instructions booklet. make sure you have about 4 hours for this. And make sure you have allready backed up all important files.
Call Dell technical support. Explain your situation and ask if you should reinstall windows. A representative will guide you step by step to reinstall your Operating system. Once it's finished, you're computer will preform as well as it used to

well it will increase your memory, but the more you put into your computer, program wise, the more time it takes for your computer to process everything.... you might want to download adware se personal from lavasoft. or even privacy mantra. sounds like you have a lot of cache in your system, nmaybe some adware, maybe some spyware.... put your computer in safe mode.... scan it with these (adware and a spyware program twice) reset your websettings in internet ops and restart

you need some serious memory upgrades and ddr is cheap right now where I have been buying at for the past 10+ yrs try this site.... enjoy think in terms of 1 gig memory you wont out grow that much............. ENJOY~
