This is an out-of-date "hidden secret" of the very rich. It was one of the ways in which they used to distinguish themselves from the "plebians" by their own "secret code" of doing things. It is now OK to wear white any time you want to. The rich know they are rich and could care less if you wear white, or they do, after labor day. It has become a joke, and not a reality.

This is an old fashioned "rule" about the end of summer and beginning of fall. When Memorial comes in (end of May) that is when the wearing of "white" unofficially begins. By the end of summer, the white clothes give way to fall colors.

It's usually white clothes and shoes that get put away after Labor Day. If you live in the south or where warmer weather sticks around, it's o.k. to wear white longer.

Besides, what's going to happen to you anyway if you wear white longer? Not a thing. Just a lot of stares... ;)

Ok, a little fashion lesson. White represents the summer which is marked btween Memorial Day and Labor Day. Since you are moving into the Fall season, it is time for fall colors. Your reds, browns, blacks, greens, like the color of the changing leaves. Now in winter, there are "winter whites". The thing is, as long as the article of clothing is appropriate for the season you are dressing for, you're fine. The other thing is, do you really care about what other people think, because some of the most recognized fashion trends come from people defying the rules? Hope that helps.

Ok look the thing is you NEVER wear white after labor day because white is a SUMMER color!!! If you wear white after labor day it is totally social suicide!!! you wear darker colors in the fall (why do you think they have all new lines in the fall!) when it becomes winter you can wear creams and off whites but no plain white! In spring clothes start to lighten in color, but still no whites! after memorial day you can wear white again!

it isn't only shoes either. ALL clothes!

hope i could help you Fashion EMERGANCY!

luv Jessi :)

It was a tradition that we wouldn't wear white after Labor Day, but that tradition is long gone. Now it's just wear whatever, whenever.
