I would go with DirecTV myself. Having had both, Direct has better reception and service. Dish wasn't interested in the problems that I had at all. I ended up reporting them to BBB.

I've always liked the dish network guide better.
Otherwise the replacement equipment is more available for direct tv if you ever need it. I'm having trouble getting a new reciever for dish network to replace a really old one.
The packages are fairly equivalent as far as I know.
The trouble with storms is determined by how well the dish is mounted. Put it under a roof in the attic and you won't have any problems with most houses. Do be warned that very few installers know that a roof won't block a radio or satellite signal.

It depends where you live. I know when I lived maryland Dish Network was really good but when we had it here it was terrible so we switched to Direct TV. Also Dish Network is better in storms, but not as well priced.

Dish Netowrk in the southwest where I live. The cost is in the same range but Dish Netowrk offers music, college classes and losts more that Direct TV doesn't. Compare prices, check the program guide and ask questions. I did.

It depends on what you want. Neither dish nor Directv have a lag behind cable unless the broadcast is hd. Directv has the best sports packages (nfl sunday ticket, mlb extra innings etc) Dish Network is typically not as good as Directv overall. If you want cable look into Comcast for the On-Demand. Typically they bury the wires in the walls even from outside but it will depend on the condo. Also the 5 lnb satellites are amazing. Go with Directv

had dish, and changed to direct tv hoping to get better choices, didnt..they are just about the same. go for the deal and then you will be happy.
