leave them open to the air, not sealed. The fumes will disapate.
To those who answered later:
Its important to either have mostly filled gas cans, or empty of all gas AND fumes. A gas can with very little gas and mostly fumes is very dangerous and quite explosive.
For this reason one should never store a gas can empty without getting rid of the fumes by leaving it open to air. Also, you should never place another substance in the can for fear of contaminating your gas.

I wouldn't put anything but gas in. Seal them tight and put them in a different location.

If you happened to have a nitrogen tank you could fill it with that. :-) That's what they do on oil tankers, but I suspect it may not be practical for home use!
