It would depend on whether it is a children's party or an adult party and how old the adults invited are. Do people need to arrange baby-sitter's to come?, do people need to arrange transport for themselves or children?, is it an after school or weekend birthday party?.
I would say at least 2 weeks, maybe a month. Too much notice and people may forget!!!

Well I turned 30 today and I am having a party on saturday for about 60 odd people I am a chef so I hired a hall and am doing all the cooking setting up myself and of course a few friends to help but I only started planning about 6 weeks before and I still sent out invites last week to some people that were away, ideally you should send out invites at least 4weeks prior so hope this helps!! also I would book the venue now it may just get taken!!

If it's a pretty big party i'd say at least a month...if it's a little birthday party or something i would say about two weeks. Like a wedding you would want to send them about two or three months in advance to give people time to save the date and make arrangements for baby sitters and then RSVP.

Every on your invite list should have at least ten days advance notice of your party. If you need a response add another eight to ten days in order to give them time to respond.

2 weeks before. That way you have time to set up and buy party-favors and stuff.
