Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now.
"I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour
But Heaven knows I'm miserable now.
I was looking for a job and then I found a job
And Heaven knows I'm miserable now
In my life why do I give valuable time
To people who don't care if I live or I die."
I know how you feel mate.
Seriously though Morrissey has been a huge influence on me, before the Smiths and especially at the time they came to the fore music was in a rut, looking towards the "glamour" of America and Maggie (Milk Snatcher) Thatcher's Greed is Good ethic. (Young Guns go for it etc.)
The Smiths music could only have come from Britain and probably only from Manchester which at the time was nowhere near the bright vibrant city it is today and is, therefore, a product of the times.
Why should music be all "Oooh Baby, I love you" When life isn't like that at all?
Morrissey, Marr and the other two, I salute you.

None of The Smiths songs are depressing! Morbid, moody, dark, darkly humourous yes! They're only depressing to people who only like "la la la" banal happy happy songs - music should reflect life, it should speak to you, and life isn't all happy, **** happens. Possibly the most morbid smiths song is Asleep, which was a b-side and also on the "The World Won't Listen" compilation.

The Smiths are one of the best bands ever! although some may say a touch morbid.
I would agree with 'that joke isn't funny anymore'

What a Great Band!!! Morrisey rock's! Personally i think "how soon is now" is very depressing, another one is "Reel Around The Fountain" It was a Very bold song to release for it's time.
Good Question by the way.

I wouldn't call them depressing though. They are all absolutely brilliant, and if I had to choose a depresing sounding one, what about "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now"?
