House spiders dont have memory. At least not in the way think of memory. A house spider survives by instinct, it builds its webs by instinct and finds its way around by instinct. When you see a spider running across your carpet into a dark crevise it has not memorised that route but simply knows from instinct were to find a protective environment, namely where two srfaces meet.

A good way to think of a house spider's memory is to liken it to muscle memory. A guitar player will learn the chords to a song and play it over and over again until it becomes memorised by his muscles. Then, when he want to play that song, he commands his muscles to rpt the memorised patterns. The house spider is already born with this muscle memory and so does not need to learn it but just follow it. I would suggest then that the house spider has no memory as in cognitive storage facility.

I believe that the tragic loss of his fellow Spider Borris may have left a scar in his mind, Perhaps a new spider would cheer Clive up somewhat. I think Clive is happy for the jar home you have created for him and I also think he sees you as a father figure! You are a kind person for taking care of the cripple, Borris and Clive.

Well the last one I spoke to said he had tea in the parlour with a fly 4 hours earlier and he remembered that was quite delicious, so their memory span is at least 4 hours, if that's any help !!!

Les didn't die, Clive bit into its knee and sucked its innards out. Let it go and if it comes back into the house, it has a good memory. 10 points???

Thats a good question. I think they have a helluva memory, because they seem to be vindictive little bastards.
