Depends on your abilities, as this is somewhat involved. I'm pretty sure you have one of the Quad Four relatives there. Get a good manual - preferably a copy of what GM gives their dealer techs, a Hayes manual if you can't afford that. Check the book to see if what it takes matches your skill level. The worst case is that you may need to pull the timing belt; the best case is that you may be able to compress the valve spring and just reach in between the valve and the cam and pull the lifter out.

performance should be the actually clarification for making use of good lifters over hydaraulic in my opion. For highway use they're noisier and faraway from hassle loose as they choose consistent adjustment. once you're competing any aspect you'll get in the direction of performance on your type is a plus yet for highway you extremely won't be able to observe or get excitement from the performance distinction between lifters. Shovelheads have a tendency to be noisy sufficient with the forged iron heads in spite of hydraulics no longer to point solids.

It is if you have the proper hand tools, the patience, and the mechanical knowledge to take apart a engine. Im going to assume your engine is a V6, if so, you will need to remove the intake, push rods, and both heads. the lifters will be down in the "valley" of the engine just above the camshaft, My advice to you, since you have the engine open, dont only replace one, replace them all, but let me warn you, lifters average about $20 a piece. and a V6 has 12 of them, plus the cost of 2 new head gaskets and valve cover gaskets being you cannot reuse them.

Wath out for excesive wear on the cam .
The cam and lifters are set or worn to match.
The best thing is to change the cam and lifters as a set.
Many car lots will change just the lifter to quite the noisy lifter for a quick sale. but in a short time they will be back.
While your in there change the Timing belt.

Yes. Get a good set of hand tools and a decent repair manual first though.
