what kind of permit would i need to keep a gopher tortoise & how can i get one?

1.) Gopher tortoises make terrible captive pets- their care includes the need to make rather big burrows and they just generally do not do well in captivity.

2.) In the states that allow permits (some just plain do not allow them to be caught, kept, or harrassed), they are usually limited to people with a known and demonstrable scientific, educational, or environmental purpose. You pretty much need to be an existing zoo or wildlife rehabber.

3.) Just FYI- a few states are really trying to crack down on this and when a person is caught with an illegal tortoise, they are throwing the book at them.

4.) Your state's game and parks, or wildlife departmetns are the places to start looking.

i doubt that you can get a permit since they are endangered
contact your states conservation/game department for more information
