It is a thumb-sized solid state memory. The memory chip in it is equivalent to 16 to a thousand megabytes of storage (depending on how expensive a one you buy) so a lot fits on it. You plug it into a USB socket. You can hold files on it or pictures and put it in your pocket for safekeeping.

It's like...when your really pissed and you need to let off some steam. You wanna just let the road take you where it will, but your pressed for time. So you jump in your car and back out of the driveway....then pull back in. Micro-drive.
