I am very saddened by this loss to our animal friend community. Mr. Erwin was a brave and wonderful man who died doing exactly what he loved but made a stupid mistake doing it. I too always figured that he might get bitten by an crocodile but at the same time, hoped that his intelligence would save him, and alas, it's made poor Terri a widow. I, and I'm sure the rest of the world, will mourn this brave man who had the courage to show the world that crocodiles and other "dangerous" animals are not necessarily to be feared but to be admired and left alone in their natural habitats.

Hi,
Well I was very surprised to turn on to the Internet and see Steve Erwin face surrounded by big words HES DEAD! He loved what he did for a living. He knew what he was doing with animals so I thought he wouldn't die from an animal, defiantly not a stingray. when I did think he would die from an animal I thought it would be a crock too. He escaped death so many times before that it is shocking to realize that he has died. I give my best wishes to hes family.

I agree-he certainly lived life on the edge and I figured, one day, he'd become a croc's dinner. The strange thing was that usually a jolt from a stingray doesn't kill. He just happened to receive the barb through the heart-this was the type of death he was destined to undergo. After all, how many people die while doing what they love to do?

i will never forget the image of steve irwin talking to the camera while sharks were in a feeding frenzy all around him while he stood in the water...the guy was a crazy kook but he was fascinating, funny and very entertaining...i kind of felt one day his luck would run out the way he took risks dealing with wildlife but i would never have guessed it would take a stingray to be the culprit....my condolences to his friends and family....he was one of a kind and his legacy will continue as his shows run on animal planet

Oh my gosh, the poor guy hasn't even been gone that long yet and you are on here talking about him. You said you don't mean any disrespect so why don't you try showing some!

steve always said "i'll never be taken by a croc!"
and yes your question is disrespectful, the world has lost a fantastic conservationist, environmentalist, Australian, brilliant father, devoted husband and an educator........."RIP steve xxx!"

I'm surprised as well. I thought he could irritate any animal and live.
