Depends on when you apply, they typically look at the most recent cumulative. I applied for early admission into Indiana University, and they only looked at my GPA through junior year. I also applied at Notre Dame, who requires application deadline is before 2nd semester of one's senior year begins. However, they wait to make a decision until applicants get their first semester grades.

They look at your cumulative GPA at the time your transcript was submitted. This would be an average off all of your scores from 9th grade and up.

The transcript you send in when you apply tends to be from your junior year, and though colleges will accept you before the end of your senior year, most of them do require you to submit a completed transcript before you enroll. This not only guarantees that your GPA didn't do anything too drastic, but also ensures that you actually graduated, which is something most universities tend to care about.

Your overall high school GPA will probably be what they look at the most. Since you'll most likely be applying during the beginning of your senior year, your cumulative will most likely consist of everything through your junior year. Remember, though, most schools make you submit another transcript after graduation, so don't think you can slack off too much senior year!

I think colleges look at your Junior and some of Senior year grades and gpa. Most people say your junior year is your most important year.

Mainly through the first quarter of your senior year, although afterwards, they can still check your transcript. Once they accept you, though, in March, there is no point in looking at your GPA any longer. Every year counts, though, as colleges will be checking for consistency in grades and how challenging a course is to you.

Most look at Sophomore and Junior years the most. Freshmen year they take a glance at, Senior year they see which courses you are taking. And of course, if your grades slip too far low to a C or D during Senior year they have the ability to revoke your admission.

Up until when you entire high school, until they accept you. Some colleges even keep track of you the last semester of your Senior year to make sure you don't succomb to Senioritis. My recommendation is to keep the grades as high as possible all the way through. All the hard work pays off tenfold in the end.

I heard junior year was the most important year. But maybe it depends on different colleges.

all. They want to see if you are consistent or only put in time when it "mattered". (last minute)
They may ask you if the grades aren't consistent, like "what made you change?" You can still get in if your overall GPA is good, but the sooner you get good grades, the better your chances.
