How do I get blood out of my white carpet? I broke a glass, and I thought I had it all cleaned up, but I missed a piece and cut my foot. And got blood on the carpet. How can I get it out?

Blood is a complex chemical compound so it is very hard to get it out of cloth.

I use a solution of Shout or Spray and Wash that you can buy in any supermarket, and add some baking soda and a little Formula 409 (or Fantastick) to the mix. The baking soda provides a mild abrasive , the commercial cleaners give a variety of cleaning soaps. With the addition of Formula 409 (or Fantastick) a stronger cleaner is added. I take the bottle, of Shout or Spray and Wash, and expend a few ounces, then I add a few spoon fulls of baking soda. After that I add 7-8 full squirts of the Formula 409, then I shake it up and mix it together.

After I have created the solution I spray it on the spot and then scrub it with a toothbrush. I do this to get blood and other stains like ink out of my laundry. One application and the blood comes out. It should work on your carpet, but you will need to wash the carpet area as well. It will probably take a few tries to get it all out, and I suggest that you let the cleaning solution sit for a minute or two, after you have scrubbed it, so the cleaners have time to work on the stain.

That sucks, hope you heal soon.

If it's fresh blood, you should be o.k. From ehow:

1. Blot the blood with an absorbent cloth, being careful not to spread the stain.

2. Use a small amount of mild detergent directly on the stain. Work the detergent into the stain with a toothbrush or small brush.

3. Blot the area with a clean, dry, white cloth.

4. Pour a small amount of ammonia on the stain. Allow the ammonia to sit for several minutes to break up the stain.

5. Blot the area with a clean, dry, white cloth.

6. Apply a small amount of detergent directly on the stain.

7. Blot the area with a clean, dry, white cloth.

8. Rinse the area with clean water.

9. Blot the area with a clean, dry, white cloth.

You may have to do this a couple of times. I recently discovered the beauty of ammonia - it cleans like *everything* (just don't mix it with bleach). I got several old stains out of my carpet with it. I'll never bother with those Resolve type things again. Ammonia is like a buck or two for a huge jug of it at your local drug store or grocery store. And it's awesome. You can even use it to help your laundry (my favorite use). You can use half the amount of laundry detergent you usually do, with a full cup of ammonia (never bleach with it, remember!) and your laundry comes out SO bright. Stains don't have a chance with it.

Good luck - I know about cutting your foot on broken glass - I had to have 9 stitches many years ago from the same injury. Hope you feel better!

I suggest that you use the woolite carpet brush. It works really well and removed paint stains from my carpet so I'm sure it will work on blood. Its relatively inexpensive and can be found at Wal-Mart on the laundry aisle.
