I can´t believe he´s gone. I was so shocked to see it on the news this morning. I am studying veterinary medicine (so obviously, I love animals) and he was one of my idols growing up for everything he did to help the environment and endangered species. I always loved watching his show, and I loved how he was always so enthusiastic about his work. You could tell he really cared about making a difference. He was one of the few celebrities who are actually REAL and who actually go out and make a difference. I still can´t believe he died at such a young age...44, and by a stingray. However, I am sure he is glad that he left the world doing something he enjoyed. My respect and condolences go out to his friends and family. I am sure he was a great husband and wonderful father.

What did you think of the news when you first heard about it?

In a word : STUNNED!!!
The world in general and the natural world in particular is going to be a sadder place without him. Steve had a life that through his enthusiasm and sheer guts, made the world a richer place to live in. To paraphrase Winston Churchill's famous wartime speech, "Never has so much been owed, by so many, to just one man". My condolences go out to Terri, Bindi and little Bob, and to Steve's dad Bob Irwin whom Steve idolised as his mentor and father. Rest in peace, Steve.

Shock at first. Then I felt that he was almost BOUND to go out in that kind of way. But didn't he show people how to live!

Learn his lessons:
Live with passion. Work from your passion.
Believe that you can make a difference.
Don't concern yourself with what others will think of you.
See the awe and wonder all around you.
Spread the love.

He was a good man. His like are always missed.

I was in total shock - my heart goes out to his wife and kids and also his father because they were so close. He loved all wildlife, so it is a terrible twist of fate that his passion in life ended up taking his life at such a young age leaving 2 small children - RIP Steve Irwin

I am a huge fan and am obviously really saddened about his death. I wouldn't say I am surprised, as he spent a large part of his life dicing with death, I hope it doesn't sound too awful, but I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner - amazingly a stingray and not a croc or deadly snake killed him in the end, the general lucklihood of this happening is meant to be very slim. RIP Steve Irwin.

He was a part of my family & I am deeply saddened at his passing. My heart & prayers go out to Terri, Bindi Sue, Bob and all his family & friends. He will be greatly missed.

i was so gobsmacked and couldn't believe it!!! was only wochin him on sky last nite!!! i still cant believe it. :- (

THE WORLD HAS LOST SUCH A SPECIAL, FUN LOVING AND CARING GUY!!

HE BROUGHT SO MUCH INSPIRATION TO ALL WHO KNEW HIM AND TAUGHT THE WORLD SO MUCH ABOUT THE BEAUTY OF THE ANIMAL KINGDOM.

MY SINCERE CONDOLENCES GO OUT TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

I’m Free

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free,
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
to laugh, to love, to work or play;
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes, these things too I will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I’ve savoured much.
Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me,
I’m with God now, I’ve been set free.

SADLY GOING TO BE MISSED BY LITTLE_HEN AND FAMILY.

REST IN ETERNAL PEACE STEVE. XXXX

Who's Steve Irwin?

I didn't blink an eyelid. Couldn't you see this coming people???I've been stunned by how many people seem to be shocked! The only surprise for me is that living such a dangerous lifestyle, he lasted as long as he did.

Somebody on another thread said: 'This is a man who had courage to wrestle with a crocodile and even play around with scorpions, snakes and other deadly animals'.

Let me rephrase that...

Can I change 'courage' to 'the stupidity' and put the 'deadly' in block capitals.

This is a man who had the stupidity to wrestle with a crocodile and even play around with scorpions, snakes and other DEADLY animals. Yep, that's more like it...

That's what sums it up for me I'm afraid. I've been berated today for my lack of sympathy, and told I should be thinking about his wife and kids. Well, maybe he should've thought about his wife and kids, and not lived his life on the edge, threatening to make widows and orphans of them everyday! (Oh yeah, and this is the guy that dangled his baby over crocodiles).

I know I'm unpopular today, you'd swear I was the one that offed him, not the stingray...
