I think there is more pressure on kids to grow up quicker. They all seem to be developing faster too. My 11 year old daughter could easily pass for a mature 15 year old, until she starts to talk when you reaslise she is only 11. Its very scarey for parents to see these changes and know that mentally they are not yet ready to cope with them. As for the behaviour of some children, it seems that some parents just can't be bothered to teach them right from wrong. Schools have to be so careful how they discipline the pupils, else they get the parents going mad because thier perfect child would never do anything wrong. This shows the children that they can do pretty much what they want and get away with it. In this throw away society there is no respect for property or belongings, there is little incentive to work because the DSS seems to keep some people in quite a good standard of living. If everything is being paid for by the government then they don't have a sense of achievement when they buy something they really wanted because they worked hard to get it. It also seems that children are pretty much able to have what they want, because of advertising and peer pressure they want the latest gadgets and toys, and parents seem willing to give it to them even if they get into debt, but by doing this kids don't appreciate the value of the item, not only the monatry value but what it took for the parent to get it. I also think that all kids are seen as a problem, out to cause trouble, sometimes they hang around in gangs on the streets because there is nowhere else to go. My son is nearly 10, and he loves football, he's in a team and practices regularly but there is nowhere around where we live for him to play. the police were called out once when he and his frineds were playing on a public greenway, where I used to play as a child, the reason? because the ball hit someones fence by accident. There is no tolerence for children playing, and the threat of ASBOs are used sometimes against the wrong kids.

The big difference is that todays youths do not respect authority.
This is because they have not been given any reason to rear the repercussions of their actions.

When I was a child growing up, if I did something bad, I got a slap from a teacher, policeman, my parents or other responsible adult.
So as I grew up, I learned that bad behaviour was wrong, and that it invariably resulted in punishment.

When todays youths were children, they did not get chastised in this whay when they misbehaved, so they never learned the valuable lesson that bad behaviour results in punishment.

This is why we now have gangs of lawless young thugs making life miserable for everyone else.

Spare the rod and spoil the child.
