This is so embarassing to ask. I was shaving under one of arms and I noticed that I have this spot that is itchy all the time and my deodorant I use irreates the spot. Could it be a razor burn or an infection or something else.Should I change my deodorant?

I am a paramedic, so don't feel embarrassed. It may just be razor burn, and the deodorant is irritating that area under your arm. It could also be an allergic reaction to something. You may want to get some hydracortizone cream and try that on the spot. It should take care of the itching. As far as your deodorant, just try to avoid that particular area of your underarm. If it persists for several days and does not seem to get better, you could always try talking to either a doctor or a pharmacist.

First of all, switch to a deodorant that doesn't contain alcohol and is hypoallergenic. I may suggest Almay or Mitchum for women as first options; these are alcohol-free AND hypoallergenic. Soft&Dri stick solid or roll-on and Dove solid or soft solid are also good options; both of them are alcohol-free, but are not hypoallergenic. Also, use only razors labeled for women with sensitive skin; men's razors are too rough for use in the underarm area. To date, the best ones I've tried are Bic Select Comfort for women, and Venus Divine. If the problem persists after trying these suggestions, or the spot becomes red, swollen or the skin breaks, then a visit to the doctor may be in order, because you might have an infection or an ingrown hair.
