some times i want to use the speakers on my pc and sometimes i want to use my headset so not to disturb other people. So i have to reach down behind my computer and replace the cable for my speakers with the cable for my headset. This can get to be a real pain after a while. Can i buy some type of switching device so i could plug both cables into it and just flip a switch to go from one to the other? if such a device exists where could i buy it?

depending on how old you computer is, there should be a few options available...first off you could just buy a USB headset, and use one of your USB ports for it, another more feasible option I have found for playing DDO and other games requiring voice chat is to plug the mic/headset into the sound card at the back of the computer, and plugging the speakers into the front audio jack, which means if I want to use my headset all I need to do is unplug my speakers from the front panel (much easier than all that mucking about in the wires at rear of computer), however, I don't know if this would work on a surround sound system, I have old 2.1 simulated surround sound speakers...but it is a nice easy (free) workaround.
