Most of the people answering this question are a bunch of clowns that have no clue what they are talking about. Yeah, there is a lot of rap out there (especially today) that is crap, but there is plenty of rock out there that is total crap too. A lot of rap artists over the years like Outkast, Dr. Dre, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Run DMC, Notorious BIG, Naughty by Nature, Public Enemy, Eminem, 50 Cent, the Roots, Eric B and Rakim - are extremely talented artists with a lot of poignant lyrics and a lot of extremely melodic and uplifiting songs....

Rap used to be okay, when people like Will Smith did it, when it had actual beats. Now there is not even a real musician doing the work, they sit at a computer and use a mixer to make all their beats, then they make the song a remix or have someone write the lyrics for them. Rap artists don't thank their fans, their concerts and music are nowhere as close to as good as Rock. To top it all off, every song is about killing women, raping women, raping your girlfriend, dealing drugs, doing your mom, dealings drugs while doing your mom, robbing banks, having multiple "b*tches" in your bed, etc. May I also add that rap artists work nowhere as close to as hard as a rock band, I mean look at some heavy metal, thrash metal, classic rock songs and you'll see, the notes may repeat sometimes, but usually its just a chorus or rhythm fill, plus the musicians spends years learning how to play the instruments and have to play and sing while others are playing at the same time. Rap has no practice to it, just lousy singing.

Considering you cant say "crap" without "rap" I think its a great analogy. Putting the pun aside, a lot of rap is crap. When your entire song is based on teeth jewlery (a grill), you know you've hit an all time low. When you cant think of anything meaningfull to sing about and are lowered to singing obout "cruisin on 20's" just to get a buck, then your music is crap. But I guess thats with any type of music these days; wether is rap singing about "slapping my hoes" or country singing about "my ex took my favorite dog" there really isn't a lot of music these days that means much...some of these people need to take a lesson from John Fogerty's "Fortunate son" or Guns N' Roses "welcome to the jungle" and base their music off something that matters rather than something that demoralizes and sells.

Because some rap really is crap. Having said that, there are some very talented rappers and some really great rap songs out there, but there are also a lot of rubbishy ones too. Everyone wants to be a rapper these days, even the no-talent wanna-be Caucasian and Asian boys and girls.

1. It's usually about things like drugs, killing, gangs, bad stuff like that.
2. Uses profanity to obscene amounts.
3. It takes no talent to talk, with a beat in the background, no matter how fast.
4. Half the time you can't even understnad what they are saying.
5. It isn't even music
6. It rhymes in couplets, and that gets boring.
There are more reasons I dislike it, but I'm not going to list them all.
