Could be old age or vitamin A deficiency or something. You can change his food or get drops for the water.
Check it is loss of colour and not a white furry coating. That would be a fungal infection.

It could be that he's ill, or it could be a natural color change. I know more about betta fish than I do about goldfish, but I do know that color changes often show that a fish is sick.

I have a gold fish and a couple after I got her she started growing so she started turning black but a couple weeks later she turned back to orange. or if he's not growing than mabye it's from old age.

goldfish turn white when kept in a dark place.......put him in a sunnier room it should help
