My daughters and their friend found a tiny toad in the yard that has been injured. I think the little guys toes were cut off by the lawn mower maybe. At any rate it's missing some toes and it was bleeding. I put human antibiotic ointment on its injury. I have it in an old aquarium with fake flowers for cover, a small styrafoam cup with a door cut out for shelter, a little tiny water bowl, and rocks. I put a tiny cricket, a tiny slug, and a tiny earthworm in there too for food. Thus far the little guy hasn't eaten anything, but I'm not sure how often a toad eats. Any suggestions as to how to care for the little guy.

ANti-biotic onitment should be fine but release the poor little guy he most likely is scared and wants his home. Most toads eat insects but not as large as a cricket. Since he wasn't hand feed he will freeze up and most likely just die of fright not understanding you are trying to help. It's a small injury so go ahead find a good low brush with some rocks and make a big- return to the wild release send off for teh girls to let him go.

Bet they see him hoping across the yard plenty in the next month or two before the cold sets in.

How absolutely wonderful you and your daughter and her friend are to care for the little creature!

I would call a local vet and ask their advice or if you have a local zoo they should be able to help you out as well.

I did a quick search and got this if you care to persue that avenue. Thank you for taking care of it!

: I found a sick/injured toad. What do I do?
A: Generally, a sick or injured toad should be taken care of by a vet that deals with exotic animals or to a wildlife rescue center or similar facility. A search can be done via www.google.com to find local help. You can also try to use this link to find a wildlife rehabilitator near you, though they don't have listings for all areas yet: http://www.wildlife-ernational.org/EN/public/emergency/emergencyrehab.html If all else fails, contact us: kisco@toadilytoads.com

enable her save it! this is a competent journey as a infant. I used to capture them all the time! the appropriate thank you to look after the toad is to get a bucket, positioned sod on one section, then fill the different with water. The water would be grimy and muddy - the way toads like it. That seems after land, water, and beverage. Now we choose nutrition. nutrition is easy. you may feed them worms, flies, fireflys, ghats, any tiny insect basically. I used to choose worms because of the fact they have been user-friendly to stumble on, and you ought to purchase them at any wal-mart. i'm hoping I helped! have exciting you 2!

Best thing to do would be to let it go back to its natural habitat!

I always thought amphibious creatures like that grew their limbs back!
