Not wearing white after Labor Day is an outdated fashion trend although it made good sense too because feet would not be confused with a snow drift. Designers have added white to their fall and winter clothing lines, making the colour a year-round shade for sure.
In the olden days fashion connoisseurs advised against wearing white after Labor Day. Today however, winter white and other off-white colours are gaining acceptance as a fall and winter fashion staple. It used to be that one was supposed to wear white only between Memorial Day and Labor Day (basically between the last Monday in May and first Monday of September). Then "winter white" or off-white became the more accepted white-colour for fall or winter clothing.

White, in days of old (especially in the South), was considered a color only to be worn during the days of summer. After Memorial Day and before Labor.
